The Bacchetta Strada
Recumbent Bike
The Strada is
Bacchetta's steel bike for the performance minded. It is designed to be
fast but versatile. The stock dual 26" (559) wheels come with 1" 100 psi
tires and allow a wide range of others. Though built for speed it has
clearance for fenders or wider tires for touring. Its brake bosses are
positioned to allow you to also use high performance 650c 571 size
wheels. The 650c size allows you to use the extremely light, aerodynamic
and fast wheels and tires found on time trial and triathlon bikes. The
Strada is available in two sizes, medium and extra large to fit riders
5'6" to well over 6'6". Shorter riders would probably find the seat and BB
height tough to get used to. At $1795 it may be faster than any equally
comfy recumbent in its price range.
The aluminum Kinessis "Classic" front fork has eyelets and clearance for a
fender and a 1.25" tire. There is plenty of room in the rear for a 1.25
tire and a fender.
Strada will have a
full 105 groupo includes the 105 crank.
STRADA means "street" or "road" in Italian (and Bacchetta is big stick,
referring to their mono-tube frames I guess.) Once you get used to the
high bottom bracket design it is a great bike. I can even ride it no hands
for a short distance. The STRADA promises to be an comfortable bike for
fast century or club rides.
And it's almost high enough to keep "wedgie" riders from looking down on
you!
Features:
The STRADA features a Shimano 105 triple groupo, with a few exceptions.
The front brake is a Taiwanese dual pivot side-pull but the rear brake has
been replaced with Avid Arch Rivals. This poses a problem because
Bacchetta uses matching brake levers. It has a SRAM chain and Grip shift
shifters, a combination which works well.
